Mannok Completes Largest Precast Project: Design, Manufacture, Delivery and Installation of 16,000m2 Prestressed Concrete Slabs Each Weighing Over 9 Tonnes

1st November 2022

Mannok and Mannings Construction Group have successfully delivered their largest ever precast contract, designing, manufacturing, delivering, and installing almost 1,000 prestressed concrete slabs, each weighing over 9 tonnes and having a depth of 400mm, for a multi-million-euro project in Adamstown, Dublin. Mannings Construction Group contracted Mannok, for the first time, to produce all the precast units at one of the largest development areas currently active in Dublin due to the company’s strong reputation in the market and its capacity to meet the demands of this large-scale project. Following Mannok’s efficient delivery for the project’s programme of works, including the on-time delivery of over 300 loads of precast, Mannok has secured two additional contracts with Mannings Construction Group.

DETAILS

Project: Multi-story carpark for new 30,000m2 urban village, Adamstown, Dublin

Developer: Quintain

Main Contractor: Mannings Construction Group

Product: 16,000m2 prestressed concrete slabs with a 400mm depth and 30 Precast Stairs.

The bespoke design of 16,000m2 of the largest prestressed concrete slabs Mannok has ever produced, commenced in August 2021. At this early stage of the project, Mannok and Mannings undertook an extensive value engineering process, where Mannok’s experienced Design Engineers worked with Mannings on a bespoke design solution to create a multi-story carpark in a new 30,000m2 urban village with prestressed concrete slabs and stairs.

Mannok’s end to end service offering continued as the company created a robust plan for the safe and efficient delivery of the Programme of Works including how the 9-tonne slabs, which are larger than an artic lorry, would be transported and confirmation that all the deadlines for over 300 deliveries would be met.

Commenting on Mannok’s high standard of preparation, Charlie Blain, Project Manager at Mannings Construction Group said,

“Mannings in conjunction with Mannok considered the logistics of everything, for example, how many lorries per day, how many slabs per lorry and in terms of the tower crane placement, its selection, arrival and removal, Mannok helped to plan this at the very early stages of the project. We also looked at every scenario and how we would handle every eventuality, and we got answers for everything from Mannok.”

The first 10 loads of the enormous slabs left Mannok’s precast production facility in County Cavan on 12th November 2021 and over the next few months approximately 306 loads followed, with the final load being delivered and installed at the site in Dublin on 5th July 2022.

Explaining how every deadline for over 300 deliveries was met, Mannok’s Contracts Manager, Richard Willis said,

“As the slabs each weighed over 9 tonnes, we could only get 3 slabs on one lorry load and with over 900 slabs to deliver, we had to effectively coordinate around 300 deliveries, and the coordination with our teams and Mannings was key to this project’s success. Mannings were very accurate with the delivery and installation dates they communicated with us, which meant just in time delivery with immediate installation by our team was successful on each occasion.”

With Mannok’s dedicated Contracts Management Team and qualified and experienced fitting crews, the company provided the same safe and efficient service it provides on all projects, whether they are on a large scale. like this one or a smaller scale, helping Mannok to secure an additional two contracts following this initial one with Mannings Construction Group.

Mannings’ Senior Quantity Surveyor, Conor Lawlor, remarked why the contractors have decided to work with Mannok on two more occasions, saying,

“Throughout the project, Mannok has been very easy to work with. Delivery times were met, and the workmanship has been to a high standard.”

Timing is critical to the success of any large-scale project, and Mannok’s Programme of Works, the speed of installation and “just in time” deliveries closely co-ordinated with the Steel Fabricators, all contributed to the safe and efficient completion of works, on time, on budget, and to the client’s specification.
