The Irish Building Control Institute (IBCI) Conference 2017 took place in the Slieve Russell Hotel in Cavan, and Quinn Building Products were the main sponsors of this year’s conference.
The two-day event saw over 200 delegates attend from across Ireland, and was chaired by IBCI President, Philip O’Brien.
Speakers covered a range of topics including legislation, and changes to Technical Guidance Document B, systems and processes, and looked at modern construction methods. With nearly zero energy buildings (nZEB) regulations coming up, there was a focus on the regulations, and Sean Armstrong spoke specifically on the subject.
Declan Loane, Specification at Quinn Building Products, spoke on the afternoon of day one about Thermal Bridging, and how to effectively eliminate heat loss through a buildings’ thermal bridges with effective specification. Declan highlighted the superior thermal performance of Quinn Lite blocks at thermal bridges, which can improve Psi values by up to 200% versus any other block manufactured in Ireland.
The final speakers on day two were Kevin Maguire and Dr. Hoda Beltagui, who spoke about quality control, certification, and product standards for aggregates and cement. Their presentations revolved around the processes associated with manufacturing and producing the products, and detailed the processes required to enable aggregates and cement to be placed on the market. The speakers highlighted the importance of CE marking, giving an insight into the value of this particular accreditation.
Speaking of Quinn Building Products’ sponsorship of the event, Jason Martin, Specification and Product Development Manager with Quinn Building Products said, “We’re delighted to be associated with this year’s Irish Building Control Institute Conference. It’s always a very well attended event, and it provides us with the opportunity to connect with Building Control professionals from across Ireland over a busy two days. We’ve had a great response from attendees at this year’s event, with many signing up for our factory tour, and booking CPDs for the coming weeks and months.”
The Quinn Building Products trade stand was busy throughout the two days of the event, with many attendees interested in our product range, and availing of the opportunity to discuss the products and their application with our technical team.
We received a great deal of enquiries and bookings for our in-house CPD seminars, with people from across Ireland scheduling dates for our technical team to visit their offices and deliver a free thermal bridging CPD seminar. Many were keen to attend our scheduled factory tour also, which took place on the second day of the conference. The tour booked up very quickly on the first morning of the event.
