Client: Education Authority – North Eastern Region

Main Contractor: O’Hare & McGovern

Product: Precast Hollowcore Flooring, Precast Staircases

The new £20 million Parkhall Integrated College in Antrim is a purpose-built, state of the art facility to accommodate 735 pupils.

Quinn Precast was awarded the contract for the precast concrete works for the building, which is due to be completed in the summer of 2017. This included the design, manufacture, and installation of the precast hollowcore flooring and stairs. Our technical team worked closely with the main contractors, O’Hare & McGovern, preparing layout drawings with design details and support calculations.

We installed a total of 11,000 m2 of 200mm pre-stressed hollowcore flooring, erecting it through steel frames to the ground floor, and to the upper levels using our own fleet of mobile cranes. Some of the planks had exposed soffits, so extra care had to be taken with their manufacture and installation.

We also manufactured and installed five stair cores, including one wrap around.

This was a live site, so safe routes for pedestrians and vehicles, with parking for all three schools on site had to be taken into consideration, including restricted delivery times.

With a very tight programme schedule, we were tasked with ensuring the very fast manufacture of all precast concrete products, which went to production as soon as drawings were approved. We completed the installation of precast units in November 2016.

The feedback from O’Hare & McGovern’s site team stated,

“Working with Quinn Precast was a good experience on what was a very challenging job, and we look forward to working on another project with them. Their professional and knowledgeable team were always available to talk, to visit the site when required, and answer design queries.”
