In the latest phase of the company’s ongoing Fleet and Mobile Plant Replenishment Programme, Quinn has recently taken delivery of ten new trucks and a range of heavy mobile plant machinery following the arrival of four excavators and three loading shovels in late 2018.
As part of the Fleet Replenishment Programme, the company has purchased over seventy artics and forty-one rigid trucks since 2015, with two more rigid vehicles due to arrive next month. The Programme will continue until the end of next year when all of the older trucks in the fleet will be replaced with upgraded new trucks, therefore reducing environmental impact, providing greater efficiencies and ensuring ever-increasing demands are met.
Among the latest additions to the Quinn heavy plant machinery fleet are three new excavators and two new loading shovels. The new excavators received include one Hitachi Zaxis 530 LCH Excavator fitted with a quick hitch system to operate a new EPIROC rock hammer and two Volvo EC380EL excavators for Quinn Quarries. The quarries and washer plant will also be home to two new Volvo L180H Loading Shovels for management of stock piles and for loading sandstone into crushers, mills or trucks.
Of the ten new trucks which have arrived in recent weeks, six of these are Mercedes Actros 2445 LS tractor units with Stream Space cabs. All six of these trucks are bound for Quinn Cement as they are fitted with the latest truck mounted blowing equipment from Gardner Denver. The truck mounted blowers are lighter and more efficient than traditional tank mounted equipment and because of this will be complemented by the arrival of new Feldbinder cement tankers in the early part of 2020.
Two Mercedes Arocs 3240k eightwheel rigid tippers, fitted with Classic Space cabs and have insulated bodies fitted by C-Tec have also been received. These two vehicles will be used across Quinn Quarries and Tarmac divisions. The final two trucks to arrive are MAN TGS 24.510 tractor units with LX high roof cabs. These trucks, for Quinn Cement, will be tasked with drawing in all raw materials to be used in cement production. Considering the heavy raw material loads these lorries transport and the travel routes they undertake, the company has opted to specify these trucks with larger 510bhp engines. It is hoped this specification of a more powerful engine will prove fruitful, resulting in improved fuel efficiency, vehicle performance and therefore reducing the impact on the environment. These trucks have been fitted with hydraulic tipping gear supplied by SM Components.
As well as these recent additions, the fleet will also be bolstered with the arrival of four new tipping trailers to replace some of the older trailers before the end of 2019.
